Woman arrested after allegedly stealing car, crashing into police squad while fleeing in Waukegan

Osana M. Shreve, 26, of Waukegan.

A woman was arrested after prosecutors say she possessed a stolen car and crashed into a police car while trying to flee from officers in Waukegan.

Osana M. Shreve, 26, of Waukegan, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, theft over $500, resisting a peace officer, criminal damage to state-supported property, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Francis DeRosa said a victim reported that his silver 2001 Honda Civic was stolen at Motel 6, 31 North Green Bay Road in Waukegan, on July 2.

The victim told police he had picked up two women from the street who needed a place to stay.

The man rented a room at the motel and was in the bathroom, DeRosa said.

He came out of the bathroom to find the two women left and had stolen his keys along with his car in the parking lot.

The Waukegan Police Department located the victim’s vehicle on July 8 at the Rodeway Inn, 630 North Green Bay Road.

Officers tried to arrest Shreve but she began pulling out of the parking spot and struck a squad car, DeRosa said.

Officers later located the vehicle on Indiana Avenue in Waukegan and arrested Shreve.

Shreve admitted to fleeing officers because she knew the car was stolen, DeRosa said.

Evidence from multiple burglaries was also recovered from the stolen vehicle.

One of the burglary proceeds, a laptop worth almost $700, had been stolen from a car in the 2000 block of Lloyd Avenue in Waukegan between July 6 and July 7.

Court records show Shreve was on probation at the time of the offenses for a prior possession of a stolen vehicle case in Waukegan that occurred in April.

Lake County Judge Theodore Potkonjak ordered Shreve held on a $450,000 bond.

Shreve remains held in the Lake County Jail and would need to post $45,000 cash in order to be released.
