Four people, including three children, from Ghaziabad died and four others were injured after a canter truck coming from Delhi rammed into their car that was parked on the highway in Gurgaon in the early hours of Wednesday, the police said.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am when the driver of a Santro car was replacing one of its tyres that went flat, on the side of NH-48 in Sector 40 police station area. Suddenly, a truck coming from Delhi rammed into the vehicle from behind, killing Shatakshi (26), Pari (9 months), Pariksha (2) and Vedansh (6 months) and injuring Renu (27), Pushpa (50), Charu (11) and Aarohi(2), said an officer.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital. All the deceased were inside the car while the injured were standing next to the vehicle, the police said.
After the accident, the driver of the truck abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot, the police said, adding that efforts are on to arrest him.
There were eleven passengers in the car – two men, three women and six children from Ghaziabad and they were going to Baba Mohan Ram Temple in Bhiwadi, said the officer.
“Necessary action is being taken in relation to this accident by filing charges in Police Station Sector-40,” police spokesperson Subhash Boken said.
