34-year-old man dies after MSRTC bus hits his bike

A 34-year-old bank manager was killed after a bus run by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) hit his bike near Khadki railway station.

The police have arrested the 53-year-old driver of the bus.

The deceased has been identified as Rohit Kumar (34), a resident of Pimpri who was working as a manager at a public sector bank. The accident took place at around 8 pm on July 18.

“When Rohit Kumar was near Khadki Railway station, his bike was hit by an MSRTC bus. He sustained grievous injury in the accident. Preliminary information suggests that he was conscious after the impact and asked people to take him to the Military Hospital in Khadki. However, he succumbed to the injuries later,” said Senior Inspector Rajendra Sahane, in-charge of Khadki police station.

A First Information Report (FIR) in the case was later registered by Rohit Kumar’s cousin, Aalok Singh, on Wednesday morning. The police subsequently arrested the MSRTC bus driver Prakash Kadam (53), a resident of Satara and booked him under Sections related to rash driving and causing death due to negligence under the Indian Penal Code. The police have also invoked provisions under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Officials said that Rohit is survived by his wife and three-year-old son.
